“Wallace The Wiggly Worm” not only has a very catchy melody but it is also designed with significant chromatic notes throughout the piece. It is the type of piece that sticks with you throughout the rest of your day. The melody has that ability to continue to motivate the student because it is so much fun to play. This is an ideal piece for the beginning viola player.
I would suggest that the instructor take a very simple D Major chromatic scale and, after playing that with basic half and quarter notes, add the rhythm patterns as suggested. This is a great way to get the student really into the piece.
