“The Little Bud Car That Could” is a musical story about a “bud car” which used to run from Victoria to Courtenay on Vancouver Island. It was just a single, powered train car that went to Courtenay in the morning and back to Victoria in the afternoon. This musical story is filled with bowing techniques for the young violist. There is “staccato” bow in eighths which represents the sound of the train car going along the tracks. The student also gets to play “col legno”, third finger on the “D” string. The ascending and descending eighth notes represent the hills and valleys which the “bud car” is traversing. A great piece with a wonderful accompaniment. Have a quick listen.
